This program was recommended to me by our pediatrician after dealing with intermittent fears and anxieties over the past year. The anxiety first started after hearing some scary stories at camp. She recently saw a news program and has been paralyzed by the idea that “Bad guys” are coming and that she/we are not safe. We’ve had occasional bouts of shyness and some separation anxiety as well, those have intensified by recent events and ideas. My daughter and I have worked through the program together over the past 3 weeks. The information in the sessions and the corresponding journal entries have been great helping her to have language and strategies to better identify her fears, communicate them to me, and then to ultimately work through them together. She is still working through certain issues, but my husband and I have noticed a definite difference. She is doing MUCH better at bedtime (which was a huge issue before), and I feel that we have “plans in place” to continue to work through some of her other anxieties. The journal activities are sometimes difficult for her to work through, but because of this I know that they are effective and that she is truly “doing the work” to move through her fears. I think this will be a continued journey for us for awhile, however I now feel that we have language and strategies to work through recurring issues or new anxieties as they arise. My father is a pediatrician in Ohio. I have encouraged him to look into the program as well as a recommendation for his patients. I am an occupational therapist and I work in our city’s elementary schools. I intend to share this program with guidance counselors that I work with and the parents that I meet during IEP meetings (when anxiety is a factor for their children).
