Dr. Christopher McCarthy is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been in practice for 20 years.
His graduate work included training under Dr. Garry Landreth in Play Therapy and he did his residency work at the Center for Play Therapy. Chris has worked with children and teens in a variety of settings, including summer camps, a juvenile jail, children and youth ministries, and in clinical settings. Chris used his extensive experience in working with children in the development of the Turnaround program, making it a kid friendly yet psychologically sound treatment program.
Dr. McCarthy has a PhD and 3 Masters degrees. He has treated hundreds of children who struggle with anxiety. He has received post-graduate training in OCD, Treating Tough Adolescents, and EMDR for the treatment of trauma. He is a member of the IOCDF.
Chris is a co-author of the child anxiety program: Turnaround: Turning Fear Into Freedom. This program took 2 years to develop with Dr. Russ and is truly a creatively unique program that helps children overcome their struggles with anxiety. He also collaborated with Dr. Russ on the development of the Emetophobia Supplement program that helps children overcome their fears of vomiting.
Dr. McCarthy is married and has 3 children. Chris is a senior therapist with Carolinas Counseling Group, which is located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Chris is a monthly guest on NBC’s TV show- Charlotte Today.
